Radio host Blakk Rasta has apologized
to Ghana’s parliament for comments he made to suggest a good number of them
were wee smokers.
Taking his turn at a Privileges
Committee sitting Thursday he said the comments were “very unfortunate
utterances.”
“I would like to apologize for those
unfortunate comments which sometimes come when you are on heat.
“If you check the interview it was on something
else. This came on the spur of moment. We all know the importance of being an
MP.
“Hours after the publication i was
made to see it and i said who said that, and i said wow, pull it down.”
His apology came shortly after his
Lawyer Thaddeus Sory said his client was remorseful, and would want to
apologize.
“We have learnt our lessons and i dont
think we will repeat that. Regardless of the truth, contempt is contempt.
We came here to apologize.
“He should never say anything that
affronts the body of parliament. We can not sit here and say it can be
justified
“On behalf of my client we apologize
for it.”
The controversial radio host is
reported to have said that about 80 percent of Members of Parliament (MP) smoke
marijuana popularly known locally as ‘wee’ and therefore, does not see the
reason why its usage has not been legalized in the country.
“There are about 80% of
parliamentarians who smoke weed so why do people think those who smoke
marijuana go mad.”
His comments irked the
parliamentarians who pushed for him to be dragged before the Privileges
Committee of the House, the hearing of which took place today. The committee will now meet in camera for further decisions
