Stonebwoy's P5 days
Determination,
Dexterity, Unique voice, Courteous, Earnest, Humble, Hard work, Ingenuity, Respect
are few but words that can best describe this great gentleman.
Livingstone Etse
Satekla, Stonebwoy began performing since his Primary school days through to
his
Senior High School days at MEDASS, gaining himself underground popularity
before signing onto Samini’s record label. His first hit single was ‘Climax’
which featured Samini, and since then Stonebwoy has been on the rise and now,
he is certainly a force to reckon with when it comes to his genre of music-
Afropop, reggae and dancehall but no VGMA.
It is an open secret
that the yardstick for nominating artistes in the various categories in VGMA,
through to winning of awards more or less depends on how popular your song (s)
is/are in the year under review, the massive heavy rotation of your song on the
various airwaves across the length and breadth of the country, the presence of
the personality as a whole, and yes, the telcos vote as well.
Stonebwoy from his days
at the camp of Samini till now has really live up to expectation, be it
releasing of hit songs, performance wise, personality and certainly for sure
Ghanaians especially music lovers won’t fathom why this awesome dude shouldn’t
pick up even just one (1) award at this year’s VGMA. The CEO of Bhim Nations
deserves to win even more than an award-no two ways. He deserves it oo, he deserves
to win multiple awards!!
When it comes to huge
presence of song and personality, he has mounted almost all the top notch shows
in the year under review; GH Rocks-2014, Citi fm’s Decemba 2 Rememba, MTN 4Stye
Video Awards, Vodafone 020 Live Concert, the S-Concert, Events that were held
at the stadium and the list goes on and on.
He is one of the few
best performers here in Ghana-no two ways. Be it ghetto shows, middle class
concerts, whosoever, whatever, wherever, he never failed to make his presence felt,
he would justify his inclusion to the fullest. He has got the knack to woe you
off your seat during his performances to bust a move or two, and no wonder he
has been adjudged the best performer on almost all the stages he has mounted by
the patrons.
I just remember a
concert where he electrified, rocked, thrillingly thrilling thrilled the
patrons to awesome performances living the patrons panting thunderously after
his performance, and when the headliner came on stage to perform, his delivery
was way below the belt, all he was saying was ‘‘dj, give me next track, give me
next track, let’s go, let’s go’’, and was just running around the stage
throughout his performance. After this very concert has come to an end, a lot
of patrons were peeved at the organizers as to why they did not make Stonebwoy
the headliner of the concert rather. His unsurpassed stage work, his
showmanship, energy on stage is a true reflection of a music icon that is
destined for the world. He is such a gem!
In relation to being
humble and respectful, a lot of artistes have voiced out their dismay in the
VGMA scheme as they thought it was given to people who didn’t deserve it where
they failed to use the right channels. Awards are given to people who are
worthy to be awarded, and not people who think they need to be rewarded. Stonebwoy
not once, not twice has been nominated in various categories where he did not
carry the award home but Stonebwoy hasn’t verbally assaulted the organizers of
VGMA, and to the extent of calling them names. He won’t hue and cry on any day,
he hasn’t before and he won’t engage in all those sort of gimmicks so as to be
recognized. He is just not ill-bred, he always make sure he used the right
channels and the right words to voice out his grievances.
It got to a point that
even the industry players on whichever platform they would found themselves
have conferred on/ have declared that yes, Stonebwoy is the realest, the authentic
reggae and dancehall artiste, and one of the hardworking artistes they’ve seen
so far in Ghana. He is simply just not a talented artiste but a gifted artiste,
I must say.
Indeed, 2014/2015 has been
a great year for him, and at least a VGMA won’t be bad, VGMA will do for him.
He deserves it, he deserves multiple awards. He has released hit songs upon
hits songs in the year under review; Baafira, Bhim nation, Not again, Can’t
cool, Run go , Physically, Pull up rmx ft. Patoranking, Ex- girlfriend ft. Mugeez among hits songs which
have made massive waves all over, top various chart shows across the country
and more. He has been nominated in the following categories; Artist of the
year, Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year, Reggae/Dancehall Song of the Year,
Vodafone song of the year, Best Collaboration of the Year, Popular song of the
Year and Album of the Year.
Let’s give the devil
his due. Etse Livingstone Satekla, all the best yh, Go Beyond Borders. Your
general performance in the year under review has gone beyond expectation,
simply exuberantly exuberant. A man with a focus will never flop as your boss,
Samini would always say. Keep on, keeping on!
P L E A S E S H A R E!!
