‘If you want to create a unique identity and make good money, then do highlife music’ –Manager of R2bees reveals
Our good old highlife
music seems to be gaining some public appeal as the days go by. Ghanaian musicians seems
to be interested in going back to the root, and it’s not surprising that songs
like, Concert Party by R2bees, ‘Mansa’ by Bisa Kdei, ‘Alewa’ by Ofori Amponsah,
‘Mewu’ by Sarkodie, ‘Makoma’ among others are receiving massive rotations on
our airwaves and topping chat shows as well.
Touching briefly on the
resurrection of highlife music on our Ghanaian music scene and what accounted
for all this, one man who has always been passionate about highlife music, Mark
Okraku- Mantey has disclosed on Peace Fm’s entertainment review that he is at
least happy about the new development and according to him the manager of
R2bees, Ike Gome not too long ago revealed to him that to crossover and make
good money, they have realized as a camp that doing highlife music is the
surest bet.
“If you want to
crossover, make good money, then you have to do liveband music and a typical
Ghanaian rhythm that you would be identified with, so now we have decided to
toe that lane”. Mark disclosed
He continued, “At
least we would have an album dedicated to highlife music”.
R2bees for some time
now has released show-stopper highlife songs like Odo, Makoma, Concert Party,
and it goes on and on.
