Efiekuma’ rapper and member of the High Grade Family, Kofi Kinaata says his association with Castro made him a star.
The rapper, sharing memories of the missing musician, Castro, on Hitz FM’s ‘Entertainment This Week’ with Mzgee, said Castro introduced him into the industry.
Kofi Kinaata described Castro as a senior brother and mentor as he recalled their days in the same vicinity in Takoradi in the Western region.
“Those days when he performs in Takoradi, I go [and] cheer him up and so when he heard I had started rapping he linked me up, our relationship goes way back.”
Kinaata also revealed the last he heard of Castro. “A week before the Sunday of his disappearance, Castro called and accused me of not staying in touch but I explained I was busy shooting my ‘Asay’ video and after that I'll call, all I heard was the news.”
Optimistic that Castro would be found alive, Kofi Kinaata made known the enormous influence Castro had on his music career.
“I was doing the rap you know, the rap is not (was not) commercial, you know, I have my fans, my underground fans who [want to] listen to a whole lot of rap but Castro took it to the next level.
“He took it to some other level. He introduced me to some kind of fans so I got a whole lot of fans. I got the moms and dads and some corporate people behind me [because] of what he did, the hi-life track we did ‘Odopa’.”
